Daily Verse a short verse (almost) every day

Beautiful Son

Drop by drop and bit by bit
I’ve poured my life into you.
I have little left for myself
and that little is yours too.

To see you smile, or calmly sleep
is the greatest gift I’ve got.
There is no me without you now,
its you I’d always sought.

I dabbled in love, played with romance,
thought to one day meet someone.
But they all pale in comparison
to you, my beautiful son.

Loving a City

Loving a city is different from loving a woman.

A city does not judge you, has room for all sorts.
Not all of its corners are safe, but some are yours.
The city will love you fairly, honestly, openly.
Your love will never encompass her entirety.
Your love may be strong, but the city is stronger.
The city will always outlive your love for it.

Actually, loving a city is exactly like loving a woman.

Evil Old Man

Of all the things I’d thought I’d be,
this was never one.
A bitter, lonely, husk of a man
completely spent and done.

Unable to see, hear or speak,
my body failing me.
But what pains me more are the changes in
my own personality.

Is it not enough that I suffer
for all the sins I’ve done?
Must I also suffer the misery
of hurting everyone?

I don’t know what I hate more —
the monster I’ve become,
or everyone else for letting me live so long
till I’m nothing but rotten scum.

Biennial Friends

Whirling amongst Facebook posts,
tweets, vines, ‘grams, snaps —
the techno-socio-trappings of
modern millenial trends —

I appreciate gracious hosts,
friends, mates, yaars, chaps,
and rare, lovely gatherings of
faithful biennial friends.

Coming of the Queens

Bereft of worthy kings
of honor long ago,
Free of nuptial rings
and weaker gender roles,

Brave, bold, cruel, cold,
evoking wonder and dismay!
Their time has come, their will be done:
The Queens shall rule today.
